GILT’s ability to preserve and protect open space and parkland throughout the Rivertowns depends on the support and volunteer efforts of our community.  GILT fully supports the efforts of local residents working to preserve and protect the rich and diverse environment we live in. You can support these efforts through your volunteer efforts and your financial support.

Current Volunteer Opportunities

Saw Mill River/Chauncey Park in Dobbs Ferry

GILT and the Dobbs Ferry Conservation Board are looking for volunteers to support efforts to develop the new Saw Mill River/Chauncey Park in Dobbs Ferry.  We need assistance with maintaining and expanding the pollinator garden in the southern section of the park and monitoring the health of the native trees, shrubs and plants that have been planted through the DEC’s Trees for Tribs program along the Saw Mill River.

Swamp Milkweed Wet Meadow in Irvington

As part of the development and restoration of the new wet meadow at the northern end of the Hermit’s wetland in the Irvington Woods, GILT is looking for volunteers.  Help is needed with removing existing invasive plants, planning for and constructing deer fencing to surround this meadow, planting a wide range of new native plants using plant plugs and seeds.   A great opportunity to learn about this vibrant ecosystem and work with your hands to develop this key microenvironment in the Irvington Woods.
